Individual Details

Wallis Kirkpatrick

(1801 - 18 Oct 1839)

Wallace's* father, Samuel, settled early in Missouri. He came to the area of St. Charles County, Missouri, when it was part of the Territory of Upper Louisiana. It is not clear whether Wallace was born in TN or SC. Wallace started life in St. Charles as a merchant but eventually moved to the countryside and became a farmer, although in 'The Mudd Family of the United States', he is referred to as a fur trader. He married in April 1824, probably in St Charles, Jane Joanna Frances du Chantalle Mudd, daughter of Henry Thomas and Mary Aloysia (Mahoney) Mudd, other pioneer settlers. Jane was born in Maryland 15 February 1803 and died in St Charles 16 December 1884. Wallace died at his homestead near St. Charles in 1838. When Wallace died his oldest daughter, Elizabeth, was only nine years old. She and her mother Jane, took over the full responsibility of raising the other children, running the farm, and weaving cloth to clothe the family and several slaves.

Wallace's children numbered at least seven. The eighth child listed here, Robert, is questionable. [Has been moved to Wallace Kirkpatrick, born in 1826).

*Wallace is spelled Wallis on a photo of his gravestone at Find-A-Grave.com.
