Harold Alvin Edington Sr.

Harold A. Edington, former co-owner of Butler County Oil Co., died Wednesday in Corning Hospital. He was 49. Mr. Edington, who had suffered from multiple sclerosis since 1970, was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Butler County. June 26, 1953, he was married to Betty Ponder. Mr. Edington was a member of First Methodist Church and formerly served on the Poplar Bluff Planning Commission. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold A. Edington Jr. of Springfield and Joseph Edington of the U.S. Army in Germany; one daughter, Sharon Jean Edington of Poplar Bluff; and one sister, Mrs. Alan Shaner of Sikeston. Arrangements are being made with Cotrell Funeral Home. The family requests any memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, Poplar Bluff Public Library or the Heart Fund. Services for Harold A. Edington will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The Rev. George Sparling will preside. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled to begin at 7 tonight. Mr. Edington, a former co-owner of Butler County Oil Co., died Wednesday at Corning hospital after suffering multiple sclerosis since 1970. He was 49.
