Oskaloosa — Services for Isla Irene Herbert, 73, Oskaloosa, will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Wayne S. Feurbacher officiating. Burial will be in Buck's Grove Cemetery west of Holton. Mrs. Herbert died Thursday at a Winchester hospital. She was born March 18, 1916, near Soldier. She grew up in the Buck's Grove community, graduated from Havensville High School and had attended Emporia State Teachers College and Kansas State University. She lived in Oskaloosa since 1951 and formerly lived in Valley Falls. She taught in Buck's Grove and Havensville schools for several years, and worked for the Kansas University Midwest Psychological Field Station. Mrs. Herbert also worked in the Jefferson County register of deeds office before she retired in March 1981. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge No. 747, both in Oskaloosa. She married Melvin Herbert on Jan. 23, 1943, at Holton. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Jacquelyn Natalie, Topeka; a son, Terrance Herbert, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two sisters, Floye Knouft, Holton, and Nola Boggio, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Milton Manuel, Manhattan; and two grandchildren. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Hampton-Barrett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church or to the public library in Oskaloosa.
