Pauline Kirkpatrick of the WAVES arrived today from Quantico, A., where she is stationed, to spend a short leave at her home at Bean lake. Miss Helen Kirkpatrick also arrived today from the Missouri State Teachers college at Warrensburg, Mo. They are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Kirkpatrick.

Posted at findagrave.com: Dr. Pauline Kirkpatrick Pettegrew Clendening, age 90, died peacefully at The Sweet Life of Brookdale Place of Overland Park, Kansas on February 7, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. She was born at Bean Lake, Missouri, on September 21, 1921 as the second of five children to Ora and Hallie Kirkpatrick. She graduated from the Mount St. Scholastica School and taught school for one year. She then enlisted in the Navy and served as a pharmacist mate 2nd class during World War II. She later taught anatomy to incoming WAVES. After an honorable discharge in 1945, she went to medical school at Creighton University on the GI bill and graduated as one of 5 women in her class in 1950. She practiced family medicine in the Prairie Village area for 32 years before retiring and moving to Arizona with her husband, Herbert C. Clendening. Following their wedding in 1971, she and Herb took flying lessons and bought a Bellanca Super Viking airplane. She was an active member in the Kansas City Chapter of the 99's and flew in the Powder Puff Derby in 1977. She and Herb loved their flying experiences and were recognized as honorees in 1991 in the International Forest of Friendship in Atchison, Kansas. Pauline loved living in Tucson and loved her desert. She was a Southern Baptist and a charter member of the Leawood Baptist Church. Pauline was an avid bridge player and competitive in all ways. She was an inspiration to her family and friends, and would often say she spent the first 30 years of her life getting an education, the second 30 years practicing medicine, and the last 30 years being a retired person in Tucson. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, her older brother Jimmy, husband Herbert C. Clendening, and her grandson Brandon Clendening. She is survived by her daughters, June Schiff of Denver, CO, (Mike Schiff), Jill O'Connor of Overland Park, KS, (Ed O'Connor), her grandsons Bryan Young, Kyle O'Connor, Kevin O'Connor, Herb's children: Bill (Lois) Clendening, Paul (Nancy) Clendening, Candy Clendening, Jane Clendening, and Lauren Clendening, and their families; and sisters Helen Fedigan of Houston, Texas and Francy Siler of St Joseph, Missouri. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3- 5:00 PM, Saturday, February 11 at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. An inurnment with full military honors will take place at Ft. Leavenworth Kansas at a time in the near future for immediate family and friends.
