Verne Cave Brisco Jr.

Palo Verde Valley Times, Blythe, California, Wednesday, May 24, 2000, Page 7, Col. 1: Verne "Lucky" Brisco passed away Sunday May 21 at Carl J. Haydon Veterans Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. He was 78. Mr. Brisco was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minn. He moved to San Louis Obispo, Calif., at age three with his parents. He was raised and attended school in San Luis Obispo and worked for his father's hardware store and nursery. He enlisted in the navy in January, 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Catherine Ellis on Dec. 25, 1947. He then served full time in the National Guard from 1948 to 1951 after which he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif., before moving to Blythe in September, 1952. He worked for Harvey Sanders for a while, then worked as a repairman for Wight's Appliance. In 1967, he went to work for the Arizona Agricultural Inspection Station and continued there until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for 46 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine Brisco of Blythe; sons Gale and Paul Brisco of Blythe; daughter Lorraine Berger of Palm Desert, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 25 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Palo Verde Hospital ICU Unit.
