The following is his church's commeration about him, published 3 months after his death:

Calhoun Times, Calhoun, Georgia, December 22, 1938: John Thomas Aycock was born in Bartow County, Georgia, September 30, 1854, and died September 20, 1938, only lacking ten days reaching his 84th mile-post. He had one daughter who died several years ago, Mrs. Howard Jackson. He leaves to mourn his going a wife, one son, Mell Aycock, two daughters, Mrs. Boyce Pass and Mrs. Reece Ellis, of Calhoun; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Jackson, and one son, Julius Aycock, of Detroit, Mich.; one step-son, W. S. Nix, of Girard, Ga.; several grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends. He jointed Salem Baptist church at the age of nineteen and lived a consistent Christian life since that time. He told us some years ago of talking to some boys about the souls' salvation and they scorned him with laughter, but later they came to him and told him they were wrong. They then joined the church.

Friends, let us try to emulate his example in cross-bearing for our Lord. To his loved ones, may we point you to his God, that you may find peace and comfort to your souls in the eternal spirit of Jehovah. Be it resolved that this Salem church be resigned to the will of God, inasmuch as our loss is his eternal gain. We beg to recommend that this memorial be spread on church record, a copy be given the family, and published. Humbly submitted, your committee,
