Thomas Marion Burge

(4 May 1870 - 10 Apr 1899)

Mills County Tribune, Glenwood, Iowa, April 13, 1899, Page 6, Col. 1: Death of Dr. Burge. Dr. Thos. M. Burge only son and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob M. Burge was born at New London, Iowa, May 4th, 1870 and departed this life in Glenwood, Ia. April 10th, 1899, aged 28 years 11 months and 6 days. His father died in 1870 soon after the birth of Thomas. His mother, Wife and Young child survive him. In 1882, the mother having in the meanwhile married Lee Banister, the family removed from New London to Mills county where the most of the Doctor's life has been spent. He attended western Iowa Normal School taking the complete course and then graduated in 1892 with high honors at the Louisville Ky., Medical College. On Sept. 31st, 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Woods. To them has been born one daughter. He began the practice of medicine at Mineola. Afterward he removed to Oklahoma. After several years of successful practice there, he returned to Pacific Junction and from there to Glenwood about one year ago.

As a father and friend he was kind and loving and was a man of honor and high principles. In his practice he has always succeeded and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all. He was a faithful and steadfast member of the church of Christ and attended regularly as possible the services and born his part of the burden. The mother has lost an only son, the wife and daughter a loving husband and father and the community a good citizen and the church a faithful member. All that medical skill and careful nursing could do was done but death came after two weeks of suffering. The sympathies of all go out in behalf of those left behind.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church where the Doctor was assistant Superintendent of the Sunday school and one of its most valued members. The medical fraternity of Glenwood and the I.O.O.F. attended in a body. The church was nicely decorated with plants, flowers, etc. and every honor paid befitting the standing of the deceased. Rev. A. R. Candle pronouned the eulogy and Rev. Jeffrey assisted in the service.
