New London, Ia., Feb. 25---(Special to the News)---John Prickett, an old and respected resident of New London, passed away very suddenly Friday Morning about eight o'clock of heart failure. He was in apparent good heath up to the time of his death and was drinking a cup of hot water, which was a usual custom of his, when death struck him. He had been down town Thursday and appeared to be as well as usual. Mr. Prickett was born in Bond county, Ill. May 15, 1834, and came to Iowa with his parents in the fall of 1835. They crossed the Mississippi at Burlington with and ox team on ice that was not very safe. They located on a farm four miles northeast of New London where Mr. Prickett grew to manhood.

He was married to Nancy Burge in January 1846. To this union nine children were born, five of whom have preceded him in death, together with the mother. Those who survive are: Mrs. Jane Lee of West Point; Mrs. Ida Davey and Mrs. Janette Lyman of New London; Mrs. Edna Hammell of Los Angeles, Cal. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Caroline Barnett of Winfield, and two half-brothers, Smith Prickett of Geddes, S. D., and George Prickett of New London. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. On November 8, 1894, he was again married to Mrs. Wilhelmina Trimfeller Laughlin, who still survives him.

Mr. Prickett was converted Jan. 1, 1868, under the ministry of Rev. See and became a member of the Methodist church and remained a faithful member until the time of his death. He was a member of A. F. & A. M. lodge No. 28, and joined this order on January 9, 1865. He also assisted in the building of the old masonic hall. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, Rev. Wilson, pastor of the M. E. church officiating. Interment in the Burge cemetery.
