Leonard Funeral Service Obituary: John was born on December 24, 1925 and passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017. John was a resident of Iowa. He served the US Army during WWII. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday July 7th 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 6. Visitation will be on Thursday July 6th 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 6:45 p.m. Family and friends may also visit after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Dubuque.

John was born on December 24, 1925, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Ethel (Eigenberger) Hosier. He served the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the 1255th Combat Engineer group.

He married Margaret "Marge" Horan on February 5, 1948. John retired from Dubuque Pack and FDL. After retirement, he worked in security for three years and then delivered flowers for 13 years for Unique Boutique.

He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 700 Club and also a Poker Club member for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and sitting in the sun, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marge, of 69 years; seven children, Jim (Donna) Hosier, Pat Hosier, Mike (Paula) Hosier, Tim (Marcia) Hosier, Kathy (Mark) Corcoran, Mary (Paul) Meus, and Diane (Aaron) Lincoln; 19 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Hailey Lincoln and Nathan Corcoran.

The family wishes to thank their neighbors Dave and Rosie Deluhery for all their help over the years; to Dr. Schultheis and the Oncology Department, Dr. Brian Sullivan and his staff, Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care they gave.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Dubuque.
