William Durand Tucker Sr

St. Petersburg Times, St. Petersburg, Florida, Monday, October 13, 2003: Tucker, William Durand "Bill," 78, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003). He came here in 1930 from his native Ocala. He owned and ran six hotels in downtown St. Petersburg during a span of 30 years and was co-owner and manager of the Albemarle Hotel. He was a past president of the St. Petersburg Hotel and Motel Association and the Florida Hotel and Motel Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II and fought the Battle of the Bulge with the 69th Division. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and of St. Petersburg High School, where he was class president, captain of the track and football teams and state champion in the high hurdles. He was a former member of the Board of Governors of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the AAA Auto Club South and the Squires. He attended the Pasadena Community United Methodist Church. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed boating and golf and was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Polywogs. Survivors include his wife, Joan Appleyard Tucker; a son, William D. Jr., Seminole; a daughter, Tena Grace Tucker, Defuniak Springs; two grandsons, William D. Tucker III, St. Petersburg, and Milton Talmadge Fogg III, Shalimar; and two granddaughters, Elisa June Tucker, Mobile, Ala., and Ashley McDaniel Fogg, Shalimar.
