Nancy Kirkpatrick

Nancy Kirkpatrick was born about 1774 in South Carolina. She married William Carlisle on 19 April 1792 in Madison County, Kentucky. William had been a Revolutionary War soldier. He was born in Guilford County, North Carolina on 18 November 1764. He enlsited about 1 May 1780 in Surry County, North Carolina. He moved in December 1780 to Greenbrier County, Virginia, and again volunteered, serving in the Crawford Campaign. He was in service through 1782. Commencing 4 March 1831 he was put on the rolls of West Tennessee to receive a pension of $60 per year. On 1 May 1844 his widow, Nancy (Kirkpatrick) Carlisle, aged 70, applied for a Federal pension. It is stated in the application that William Carlisle lived, after the war, in Green, Fayette, Nelson and Madison Counties, Kentucky, and Jackson County, Tennessee. The children of the couple are listed on a Bible leaf enclosed with the application. The application gives Carlisle's death date as 5 April 1843 and the place of death as Jackson County, Tennessee. There are supporting depositions, affidavits, etc. by William Gailbreath, Phillip Mulkey and Robert Kirkpatrick, the last named being Nancy Carlisle's brother. The application (National Archives, File No. R1698) was rejected, barred by the Act of 30 April 1844.
