Burlington Hawk Eye, Burlington, Iowa, Wednesday, February 22, 1989, Page 13, Col. 3: John Benjie Liechty, 64, of Mount Pleasant, died 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1989, at his home. Born Aug. 4, 1934, near Wayland, he was the son of Aaron and Lavina [Lovina] Koebel Liechty. He married Carol Earnest June 3, 1962, in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, where he was also a deacon and choir director. He served with the U. S. Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959. He had been employed with Blue Bird. He was a 1952 graduate of Ainsworth High School. Surviving are his wife; one brother, Robert Liechty, Guttenberg; and one sister, Mrs. Lois Jones, Davis, Calif. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. The service for Mr. Liechty will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.
