The North Platte Telegraph, North Platte, Nebraska, Friday, February 25, 2011: Betty Carol Schroeder, 73, of North Platte, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln. Betty was born October 9, 1937, to Archie Edwin and Cleo Fern Paxton Neal 11 miles north of Tryon. She grew up on the ranch and attended District 9 School and graduated from McPherson County High School in 1955. On May 31, 1955, Betty married Edward "Leland" Rodewald at Raton, NM, and he preceded her in death in 1971. She made her home on a ranch in Thomas County, from 1955 to 1990, with a short stay in Idaho in 1958. Betty married Richard K. Schroeder on January 1, 1974, at North Platte. They lived on the ranch until 1990 then moved to Arizona. They moved to North Platte five years later. Betty was a professional seamstress and editor of the McPherson County History Book. She also had the first full-service guest ranch in the state of Nebraska. She served as Heart Fund Chairman for several years and was with the Willing Workers Extension Club for more than 50 years. She was very involved with McPherson County High School Alumni activities and was a member of the McPherson County Historical Society, Quilt Guild, Bible Study, Christian Women, two card clubs, Wednesday Night Dance Club, 4-H Clubs and the Red Cross. Betty loved activities in McPherson County. She was a devout Christian, an avid reader and did Brazilian embroidery and numerous other handcrafts. Survivors include her husband, Richard K. Schroeder, of North Platte; two daughters, Pamela (Doug) Schmidt, of Ringgold, and Rochelle (Jim) Kemp, of Tryon; a son, Blaine (Sharlene) Rodewald, of Maxwell; her stepdaughters, Krista (Roger) Cox, of Alma, and Barbara Schroeder, of Littleton, Colo; a stepson, Dale (Jill) Schroeder, of Paxton; 14 grandchildren, Joe (Jen) Schmidt, Anthony (Jennifer) Rodewald, Tim (Micki) Schmidt, Toni (Jay) Powers, Leland (Jenny) Rodewald, Everett "Huck" Kemp, Dan (Amy) Schmidt, Andrew (Ashley) Rodewald, Kayla Kemp, Ben Schmidt, Callie Cox, Luke Cox, Kobe Schroeder and Joel Schroeder. Other survivors include 16 great-grandchildren, Alek, Kyle and Kaci Schmidt, ElsiAnna, Kailynn, Samantha and Blake Rodewald, Zach and Ethan Schmidt, Brianna, Katelyn and Kinnley Powers, Graydon Munn, Lydon and Brom Rodewald and Rachael Kemp; three sisters, Gayle Neal and Kathleen (Kent) Fisher, all of Tryon and Cheryl Neal, of Terry, Mont.; six brothers, Duane (Ruth) Neal and Keith (Sharon) Neal, all of Pray, Mont., Terry (Elnora) Neal and Sanford (Peggy) Neal, all of Tryon, Eugene Neal and Doug Neal, both of North Platte; her mother-in-law, Dollie Schroeder of North Platte; an uncle, Kermit Paxton, of Stapleton; many nieces, nephews and other family. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Cleo Neal; and her father-in-law, Ken Schroeder. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011, at McPherson County High School in Tryon with Pastor Cindy Ballard of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in Tryon. Visitation is 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore and before the service in Tryon.
