On 31 May 1955 he married in New Mexico to Carol ("Betty") Neal, who was born 9 October 1937 in McPherson County, Nebraska. After their marriage, Edward and Betty lived in Idaho for two years, and then in Thomas County, Nebraska, on the family ranch. Betty remarried in 1974 to Richard K. Schroeder.
