Elmer Roy Kirkpatrick was born 6 April 1897 in Wayne County, Missouri. This child was reared as a son of Andrew J. & Sarah Emily Kirkpatrick, but was in fact an illegitimate son of another family member. The mother of Elmer has not been disclosed, but is believed to be Melissa Kirkpatrick, the daughter of Andrew J. and Sarah Emily Kirkpatrick [Ed. Note: Not possible, since Melissa would have only been 5½ years of age at the time of Elmer's birth]. Elmer died on 25 March 1960 in Wayne County, Missouri. Elmer was married to Emily Rainwater, the daughter of George W. and Nancy J. (Clark) Rainwater. Emily was born 27 October 1891 and died 7 September 1975.

Elmer's stone has MO Pvt. Co. C 110 Eng. Co. C BN. (Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Wayne Co., MO).
