The Examiner, Independence - Blue Springs - Grain Valley, Missouri, Tuesday, November 3, 1998: Florence Frances Gillham, 77, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center. Mrs. Gillham was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Kansas City. She was a teacher at Nowlin Junior High School for 12 years. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in education, and held a master's degree from UMKC. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Independence Young Matrons and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her survivors include her husband of 52 years, James L. Gillham; a son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Beverly Gillham; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Lynn R. Solomon; three grandchildren, Scott and Jana Solomon, and Joshua Davis; a sister, Joan Carpenter; and a niece, Patricia Carpenter. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
