George HUNT

(9 Apr 1755 - Prob 1833)

There has been much confusion about his date of birth and which of the wives of Col. Jonathan was his mother. The listing of sons in the WILL of Col. Jonathan makes it quite clear thast he came after Levi and before Daniel, the first son of the third wife, so it seems clear that he was a son of the second wife. His son Gavin Drummond Hunt in 1879, then 85 yers of age, wrote a brief history of his family for the benefit of his children and states in this that his grandfather Jonathan had 19 children by three wives, including three sets of twins. He adds that his father was "twin of Sarah who m. Thomas Bryan" which has created a lot of confusion, but the significant point is that his father "was a twin", but not of Sarah, who would have been much older, but of Mary. One can excuse a lapse of memory of a man of 85 reminising about events over a hundred years earlier. If a twin as stated, he would have been b. the same date as Mary, 9 April 1759,

There is considerably more on George in the Jonathan Hunt Genealogy.(op.cit).

He is said to have died of cholera in 1833. There is a bit of a puzzle about this because the Lexington Observer and Reporter of 11 July 1833 shows George Hunt in a list of cholera deaths in Lawrenceburg and Anderson Cp., KY for June and July 1833-but subject George lived in Fayette Co. No gravestones have been found for George and his second wife Mary Mason, albeit the Lexington, KY, cemetery has many graves for his descendants. FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page
