The Will of Elizabeth Merchant
This is the last will and testament of me, Elizabeth Merchant of Alavick Hall in the parish of Layston in the County of Hertford, widow whereby I give and bequeath to my eldest son George Merchant the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds in lawful money of Great Britain and to my daughter Mary Merchant the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of like money and to my daughters Susannah, the wife of John Rowley and Rose the wife of George Lawrence the sun of ten pounds a pice of like lawful money to be paid to the said several legatees at the expiration of twelve calendar months next ensuing the day of my decease. And I give and bequeath all the rent residue and remainder of my personal estate to my son William Merchant and appoint him sole executor of this, my last will and testament.
In witness where of I the said Elizabeth .... Merchant have hereunto sell (set) my hand and seal this twnty-sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five.
Elizabeth Merchang (SS) Signed, sealed and published by the said Elizabeth Merchant the testatrin is and for the last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other subscribed our names as witnesses to the same.
