Daniel HUNT Doctor
(25 Jan 1776 - 28 Jul 1849)
Daniel and his young family moved to Muhlenberg Co., Ky., it is believed, about the time his father died. After a few years, the family moved on to Orange Co., In., then to Vermillion Co., In. About the year 1836, the vanguard of the family arrived in Scott Co., Ar., with some coming after the 1840 census. It is believed all of Daniel's children accompanied or followed him to Arkansas with the exception of Noah who went to Iowa and one unknown child b. ca 1805. The time of the Hunt and related families migration to Arkansas can be best determined by the first children born after arriving there.

William, born ca. 1798 in N.C., d. after 1844 in Yell Co., Ar., son of Daniel and Polly Hunt, married 28 Feb. 1819 to Betty Williams, Greenfield Twp., Orange Co., In. This date indicates he was Daniel's oldest. Came to Yell Co., Ar. before 1840.

Because he was living in Yell County at the time if his marriage, it is believed he was a son of 1/1 William and Elizabeth. 1/1/3 ROBERT HUNT 21, b. In., Nancy 19, b. Ar. "married within the year", census numeration on 10/18/1850, 1850 c., LaFave Twp., Scott Co., Ar. Robert Hunt m. 6/1850 Nancy J., b. 1831. Consider the following: 1/5/2 Robert Hunt 21, b. In., son of John Hunt 45, 1850 c. LaFave Twp., Scott Co., Ar., This Census numeration was made on 10/17/1850, the previous day.
There appears to have been two Roberts of the same age in the 1850 census. One listed 1/5/2 Robert the son of John at home with his parents, the other was married to Nancy in June before the census was made in October of that year. The Robert who married Nancy was likely a son of William, note the following:
William Hunt, 1m. 5/10 "Robert? 1830 mtp", 1m. 10/15 "Lewis 1825 mtp?", 1m. 15/20 "Daniel? 1821? mtp", 1m. 40/50 "William 1798? mtp", 1f. to 5 "Elizabeth? 1839? mtp", 1f. 30/40 "Elizabeth 1800? mtp", 1840 c., Scott Co., Ar. Joel was b. after the 1840 c.
We know that John's son was named Robert, we do not know the name of William's son, however, since there were two Roberts in the 1850 census under separate listings, we identify Robert married to Nancy as a son of William. The only men in the family old enough to have fathered this Robert were 1 Daniel; 1/1 William; 1/2 Noah and 1/5 John. John already had a Robert, Noah never came to this country and Daniel's wife was at least 50 years old, her last child was born 10 years earlier. The logical conclusion is that the second Robert was a son of William.

Joel was "raised by Aunt Sarah", per Lessie James, his Granddau.
Joel Hunt m. Sarah Howard in Williamson Co., Tx., 1863/4?, a son, Joseph J. H. was born 9/20/1864. Sarah was a dau of ?William and Minerva?, in Williamson Co., Tx.
Death Cert. of Joe H., son of Joel and Sarah, "b. Williamson Co., Tx. to Joe and Sarah Howard Hunt", both b. Ar.
An affidavit of L. J. Hunt "Joseph L. J., a son of Joel Hunt", dated 12/7/1928", states that he was 1/2 bro. of J. H. Hunt
Family tradition is that Joel went out with a group chasing a hostile Indian uprising, returned to find Sarah and child gone. He searched but could not find them so he returned to Scott Co., Ar. Joel then joined the army, m. again after discharge. Later Sarah and son came to Ar., Joel provided for her needs, but maintained his present marriage. But another, and more plausible story is this: Joel and Sarah were likely married in and lived in Texas. One son, Joseph J. H. was b. there 9/20/1864. Joel returned to Ar. and enlisted in the service. This would not be totally unexpected as he would either enlist or would have been conscripted in Texas. He chose to join in Ar., and serve in a unit with men who were family and that he had grown up with. After the war, he returned to Texas and was told by Sarah's parents that both she and the baby were dead, they even showed him the graves. Joel returned to Ar., where he eventually married Fannie Morris and had a family, then married Dorinda and had more family. It was some years later when Joel heard that Sarah and Joseph were alive, he went to Oklahoma? and brought them to Ar., where he built them a house and provided for them until her marriage to Ralph Parker. She apparently went by the name of Nancy also. Sarah had been married to a Hitchcock and had a dau., Maggie R., who was b. ca 1889 in Texas. Note the following:
Ralph Parker 52, b. 8/1847, 3rd m., 2 years, b. Tn, Tn., Tn., Sarah A. 53, wife, b. 6/1846, 3rd m., 2 years, b. Ar., Ms., Ms., Maggie P. Hitchcock, stepdau., 6/1880, single, b.
