(20 Apr 1934 - 11 Dec 2005)
A Sketch of Larry Hunt
by his daughter Lisa Michelle Church
Larry (Lorraine) Hunt was born April 20, 1934 in Enterprise, Washington County, Utah. He was the eleventh and last child of Elmer and Emma Hunt. He grew up in the same house where he was born, which was at the southwest end of town. They didn't have indoor plumbing until he was a teenager. He loved sports (basketball) and animals. He helped his dad herd cattle and take care of the ranch. He was proud of his five brothers that were serving in World War II and he collected soldier memorabilia.
He played basketball in high school and got a scholarship to Dixie College. Rainy (as he was then called) was a rowdy student who liked to drive nice cars and entertain his friends with his beautiful singing voice. He sang "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "When You Walk Through A Storm". He served in the Army at Fort Douglas.
In the mid-1950's he met Rosalee Harris and they were married on April 6, 1957. For a while Larry worked as a barber in Fallon, Nevada. Then he and Rosalee moved to northern California where he began working for General Motors. They had three children: Lisa Michelle (5 Jul 1958), Lorilee (18 Sep 1959) and David Gregory (9 Aug 1962). Larry was well-liked at GM and received promotions. In 1968 he was transferred to southern California to help open a new plant. Larry moved his family there and they enjoyed the beach and going to car races.
In 1975 he moved back to St. George, Utah and soon after that, Larry and Rosalee were divorced. Larry took up a second career as a truck driver. In 1980, Larry married Barbara Read. They love going to horse races and Dixie College basketball games and hunting arrowheads together.
Larry has always been known for his million-dollar smile that can light up a room and his good sense of humor. People are drawn to him. He enjoys the open country and the solitude. He has a rapport with animals, especially dogs and horses. He is a hard worker who can build or fix anything, and he has a gift for enjoying life.
