( - 1818)
[young.FTW]
Stanley E Wedge, of Wedge and Andrews, Lawyers, Coldwater Mich says his Grandfather was Daniel Wedge born 1825 Wyoming Co. New York. He understands there were two Wedge families that came from Wales in the mid 1700's, one going to Canada and the other going to the U.S. His branch went to the U.S. and he says that he saw this recorded in the old family Bible
Stanley Wedge
There were several members of the Wedge family who came to Upper Canada in the early years-John, William, Thomas, Joshua and James Wedge
John Wedge, native of New Jersey and a farmer on 2 January 1795 received a Crown Grant in Barton Township--lots 10 and 11, conc. 1V patented 17 May 1802 all 200 acres. A voter's list show that he was living on lot 10. This land was called "on top of the mountain". Family tradition states that John married a daughter of a Chief of the Six Nations Indians, Grand River and that she was the mother of all their children. His second wife said to be a white woman was named was Anna Elizibath and they had no children.
John died in 1818 without making out a will. A bond to settle his estate was signed by Thomas Wedge (probably his oldest son) and by his widow, Anna Elizabeth. Afterwards Anna married Richard Declute. Anna then moved to the top of the mountain and opened a grocery store.
All family history data came from the "Annals of the Forty" vol 9
The author of the book "Joseph Brant, Mohawk" Ethel Brant Montour has written when she lived on the Six Nations Reserve, her father had an old friend named Bill (William) Wedge.
The history of Brant Co Ontario Canada gives an account of William Wedge, a Chief of the Cayuga Tribe and Sheriff of the Indian Forest, Osewakan, Ontario.
Mr Elliott Moses, Indian Agent, Ohsweken, Ontario has written that a family by the name of Wedge belongs to the Cayuga Tribe and lived on the Reserve near Brantford.
Mr Harley a minister, at Brantford Ont. writes that his Great Grandfather Nicholas Misener purchased from William Wedge, property at Troy Ont.
Others by the name of Wedge have appeared in the very early history of Ontario and Michigan and elsewhere. FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page
