Randolph CLARKSON

From the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey: He was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He enlisted as a private, Capt. Thomas Hadden's Co., Col. David Forman's Regiment, Heard's Brigade, N. J. State Troops, in June 1775, for 5 months. He was present at the battles of Long Island (27 Aug. 1776) and White Plains (28 Oct. 1776), and retreated to Philadelphia, where he was discharged in Nov. 1776. Re-enlisting 1 Dec. 1776, as pvt., Capt. Daniel Neil's Eastern Co. of Artillery, he was present at the battles of Trenton and Princeton, and was discharged 1 March 1777. He re-enlisted later in the spring of 1777, as pvt., Capt. Robert Ross's Co., 1st Infantry Regiment, Middlesex Co. (N. J.) Militia, and served through the year 1778. He lost his left eye at the battle of Monmouth (28 June 1778). Then he became a waterman, and served under Capt. John Storer in the whaleboat service, in which line of duty he was wounded in the left hip by shot from a musket in an engagement near Perth Amboy in the summer of 1782.
