From the papers in the revolutionary War Pension claim S 3116 it appears that Benjamin cave was born June 15 1760 in Culpeper County, VirginiaWhile a resident of the said Culpeper County he enlisted, date not stated, sieved three months as a private in Captain James or Charles Browning's Company, Colonel Barbour's Virginia Regiment returned home and in about fifteen days enlisted as a substitute for his brother John "who was newly married" and served eighteen months as a private, in his stead in Captian Henry Fields' Company, Colonel Towles' Virginia Regiment and was discharged in June 1781.
In 1781 he moved to Guilford County, North Carolina, and subsequently liven in Camden District, South Carolina, Guilford County, North Carolina, Culpeper County, Virginia, Kentucky, and Fairfield County, Ohio respectively. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 7, 1832, while a resident of Perry Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, at which time he was a Baptist minister.
There is no data on file as to his family except the reference to his brother John and one other brother whose name is not given

Capts Fields, Fowler, Staff, Va.; born Culpeper, Va., 1760; parents -- Benj Cave (wife of Benj Sr not named); married Keziah Cave (per pension record) children: Benj. (would be Benj., the 3rd) Emanuel; Ezekiel; John Jonas; Nathaniel. Died Feb 16, 1842, Harrison Two., Ross Co., Ohio. Buried Stanhipe, Ross Co., Ohio. After the Rev war moved to Montgomery Co., Ky., thence to Ohio in 1816. Minister of Gospel. Organized & was pastor, for several years of the Baptist Church, Couth Perry, Ohio.
