Parrie Ann Van Hyning Shortle, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, in Chelan, Washington following an extended illness.
She was born September 27, 1916 at East Liberty, Ohio, the daughter of George Herman and Mary Lyrl (Clark) Van Hyning. During her early years, she lived at many locations in the Mid-Western U.S. and also in Venezuela.
She was graduated from high school in 1934. She then moved to Albuquerque, where she attended and was graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Economics. She also attended graduate school there and at the University of Chicago. On December 28, 1943, she was married to James Samuel Shortle, M.D., in Chicago, Illinois.
Following their marriage, they moved to Albuquerque, where Mr. Shortle began his medical practice. Dr. Shortle preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Shortle continued residency in Albuquerque until 1999, when she moved to Chelan, Washington to be near her daughter, Parrie Pleyte.
Survivors include two daughters, Parrie Pleyte of Chelan, WA, Sarah V. Shortle of Albuquerque; two sons, George S. Shortle of Albuquerque, James S. Shortle of Linden Hall, PA; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
