Miscellaneous
Joseph CAVE was an adult in August 1736, when Timothy Holdway petitioned the Orange county Virginia Court for judgement against him in the debt of 1000 pounds of Tobacco. He could not be located and the charges were dismissed in Court 21 Sept 1736. On September 24 1742 the Orange county Court ordered the churchwarden of St. Mark's Parrish to bind out the children of ***Joseph CAVE and Richard Jenkins because "they take no care for their education nor cause them to be brought up in Christian Principles." It is in the records of the court that son Reuben CAVE was apprenticed out to Wm Hutcheson in 1742. No doubt the other children were also bound out. On April 24, 1744 ***Joseph CAVE was summoned to the next court as a witness for the defense of Jonas Jenkins against William Duff. February 26 1746/7 he was summoned to court to answer information exhibited against him. He did not appear and was "attached" in each of the following five courts for the same reason. When he did not appear the case was finally dismissed in May 27 1748. It is worthy to note that in 1749, his son, William CAVE, was born in Culpeper county, (today Rappahannock county) Virginia. Did he skip town to beat the charges of the courts? Is this when there was a break between the CAVE families that stayed beyond the Ridge, and our ***Joseph who later would go over the Ridge into present day Page county? ***Joseph and wife _____ Jenkins were the parent of several children. We know of the five sons: Reuben; Jonas; William; ****John; and Benjamin. These sons have been documented in public records acknowledging each other by some form of legal document.Miscellaneous

Heather Cave (542) Cave of VirginiaHeather’s parents were William Dawson Cave (1928), of Washington DC, and Gertrude Luba Standish. Then to Arnold Blackwell Cave (1890) and Clarinda Adelaide Millar; Belfield Dawson Cave (1864) and Mayfield Columbia Kilby; Wesley Cave (c 1813) of Shenandoah VA and Mary Elizabeth Milton; Jonas Cave (1784), of Madison Co VA, and Sarah Valentine; John Cave (1758) and Catherine; Joseph Cave (1712) and Mary Jenkins. Finally to John Cave (c 1637). It is believed that this John Cave was transported to North America by a John Foxhall – specifically to lands between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers. If this is the case then John could be a son of Samuel Cave and Rachel Kellog of Essex County in England. Heather is a niece of Arnold Blackwell Cave (1925) of Virginia. His father was Arnold Blackwell Cave (1890), of Culpeper County VA.
