Minerva Goheen, daughter of Thomas and Martha Goheen, was born August 26, 1869, in Speaker township, Sanilac county, and departed this life April 6, 1923, at her home in Butman township, Gladwin county, at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 10 days.
She spent part of her early life in Ontario, Canada. She was united in marriage with Luther H. Lockard, March 18, 1888, at Meredith, Clare county. To this union seven children were born, of whom six are living.
Mrs. Lockard was baptized in the Latter Day Saint church when but a girl of 14 and lived a consistent Christian life from that time to her death.
She is survived by her husband, Luther Lockard; six sons, Thomas, Edward, Ivan, William, Claude, Frank; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Burtch of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Mary Rogers, Mrs. Olive Lapp of Harriette; five brothers, Omer of Flint, Nephy of Onaway, Israel, Thomas and Eber of Gladwin, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, April 9 at 10 o'clock at the Butman schoolhouse by Elder Burt of Beaverton and the body was laid to rest in Highland cemetery at Gladwin. Gladwin County Record dated 4-12/1923 Column - 5 Page - 5.
