Mrs. Elizabeth ESPY SAUTERS, wife of John D. SAUTERS, died Monday night, August 12th, in her home at 201 Stratford Avenue, East End, Pittsburgh. Mrs. SAUTERS was born in upper St. Clair township, Allegheny County, now Clinton, and had been a resident of Pittsburgh for the past twenty years. Previous to moving to Pittsburgh, the family resided in McDonald, where they had lived for many years, Mr. SAUTERS being one of McDonald's most progressive citizens. It was he who opened up the Briar Hill Mine and also the Nickel Plate Mine, which were in their day, important coal producing places. Mrs. SAUTERS was a member and earnest worker in the First Presbyterian church of this place while the family resided here. After moving to Pittsburgh, she united with the Bellefield Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. SAUTERS leaves one daughter, Mrs. James D. WHITE, eight grandchildren, four of whom are in the United States Army and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the late residence, 201 Stratford Avenue, East End, on Wednesday afternoon at 2.
