OLIVE EFFIE BARNHARDT
Dec. 19, 1913 - Feb. 6, 2009
GATES- Olive Effie Barnhardt passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 in Sparks, Nevada with her children at her side. Olive as born at home near Culver, Indiana to John and Clare (Mcfarland) Goheen and graduated from Culver High School in 1932. Olive was on among the six children of John and Clare: Edna, Charles, Mary Mae, Isabel and Suzy. Olive attended college in Monmouth, and began a successful career as a teacher of hundreds of students.
In 1935, Olive married Aubrey Tobias Barnhardt and they were married for 39 years, until A. T.'s death in 1974. A. T. and Olive had three children, David, who died in childhood, John and Marcia. The family moved to Gates in 1948, where Olive lived for the next 55 years.
Olive delighted in her God, her family, and a host of friends. Olive possessed the gift of hospitality, often inviting people to her home for delicious dinners; evenings of playing games and making others feel welcome. Being a voracious reader herself, Olive always had a current book to share, a start from a flower in her garden, a time-tested recipe, an especially intricate quilt pattern, or words of encouragement. One left her home richer than arriving. She was known to all for her love of Jesus, her committment to her family and friends, her beautifully stitched quilts, her talent for teaching and her boundless energy for contributing to the needs of others.
Olive is survived by her children, John Barnhardt of Nevada and Marcia Stier of Alaska; three grandchildren, John Barnhardt, Marcia Hadley, and Eric Stier, along with three great-grandchildren. Her sisters Isabel Drnek and Suzy Easterday and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
Olive's Memorial Service will be held on at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 at the Gates Community Church of Christ in Gates, Oregon with the Rev. Mike Stair officiating.
A private burial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be given to the Gates Community Church of Christ at P.O. Box 532, Gates, OR 97346.
Olive, you live on in the hearts of your family and friends.
