William Earl Goheen
May 20, 1948-July 25, 2009
William Earl Goheen, Goshen, passed away Thursday at the age of 61. The founder and developer of a number of businesses and Christian outreach organizations, Bill was respected as a lifetime learner, mentor and visionary. Above all, he displayed unrelenting faithfulness to advancing the kingdom of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born May 20, 1948, in Plainfield, N.J., Bill grew up in New Orleans, La. He received a degree in civil engineering from Louisiana State University and then worked for Chevron. He earned a master's of divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., where he founded the Mission Renewal Team.
In 1975, he married Karen Lee Mershon of Portland, Ore.
Over the years, Bill Goheen was involved in leadership of various ministries, businesses and entrepreneurial ventures. Among these he worked for eight years with the international side of the campus ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Madison, Wis. Moving to Elkhart in 1988, Bill was manager of the export division of Crown International. Beginning in 2000, he worked with research and development for VAST, an energy technology company. He also served as CEO of Tracera, a research and development company for PET Scanning. Bill earned his securities and real estate licenses, and was an author of the book, "The Galtronics Story."
Bill traveled the world with a heart for bringing people to faith in Christ. Over the years, he founded GRACE Capital (Global Research and Commercial Enterprises), Pilgrim Resources, to assist business professionals to use their market-honed skills to honor God; and the John Haller Institute, integrating business, science and missions.
Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Mershon Goheen; his three children, Caleb Earl Goheen, Mesa, Ariz., Glori (Aaron) Goodrich, Portage, Mich., and Joshua William Goheen, Goshen; and his sisters, Virginia (Ronald) Juedes, Louisiana, and Elizabeth (Dennis) House, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
