Belle Plaine, Sumner Co, Kansas - A former resident, Myrtle Vance Goheen, 97, died Dec. 29 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She moved from Belle Plaine in 1979 and had been residing at Presbyterian Manor in Kansas City. She was born Jan 5, 1885, the daughter of Burton and Cynthia Gragg. She grew up in Lawrence and in 1909 was a member of the first graduating class of registered nurses from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She and Ira Goheen were married in Lawrence in 1919. He died in 1917. They were parents of one son, John Richard to died in April of 1944. The Goheens moved to Belle Plaine in 1920, where they purchased the drugstore, which they operated until 1951, when they sold the store to Roy Cheeks. Mrs Goheen was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a grandson, Dr. John Goheen, and a great-granddaughter, Julia Goheen, both of Kansas City; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Goheen of Independence Ks.; a half sister, Helen Fairchild of Carlsbad, Ca.; and a cousin, Selden Butcher of Wichita. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 31, from the Presbyterian here with interment following at Belle Plaine cemetery.
