Death
Gerald Joseph Durant, 17, home on furlough from Fort Dix, died at 8:20 this morning, May 17, 1956, in Massena Memorial Hospital.He was one of seven persons injured in a two-car head-on crash on the Louisville-Raymondville Highway at 8 o'clock last night.
Gerald Joseph Durant was born in Massena, September 13, 1938, a son of Charles G. and Mae Miller Durant, 74 Cook Street. He attended Sacred Heart School, Massena High School, and worked at Gordon's Gulf Station before entering military service last February 28.
He had completed his basic training at Fort Dix and arrived home last Saturday, May 12, for a furlough before reporting to Fort Belvoir, VA, May 25.
Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Charles Jr. 14 and Raymond, 12; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Silby Clark, Mineville. His paternal grandmother, Mrs. Frank L. Durant, died last August 10.
