Geraldine Purvis recalls that her great aunt Anna's house, in Board Camp, Arkansas, had a large kitchen with a large dining room table that sat 12 to 15 people. Also had two small bedrooms and a parlor. One of the bedrooms had massive carved wood furniture and a feather bed. There was an organ in the parlor. The family would go to the smoke house house and carve big chunks of ham and bacon for meals. They had enormous breakfasts and dinners (at Noon). They had a spring house where they kept crocks of butter, milk, etc. They also had a well house with extremely cold water. There was a storm/tornado cellar close to but not under the house which was lined with shelves of home canned vegetables and fruits. They raised cows and chickens, and grew food for their own use. Also had some work horses.
