Aletha Garbacz1923-2004
Mrs. Aletha Grace Garbacz, 80, of Holmes Beach, Fla., and formerly of Michigan City, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 3, 2004, at her home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1923, in South Bend to Clarence E. and Grace (Probst) Goheen. She had lived in Michigan City since 1923, coming from South Bend, and in Holmes Beach since 2000.
Mrs. Garbacz retired as a bookkeeper at Indiana Industrial Plating after many years. She was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, and was past president and founder of Parents Without Partners Val-Porte City Chapter. She enjoyed fishing, socializing with family and friends and gardening, especially in her rose gardens.
Surviving are two daughters, Nina (Gael) Waldron of LaPorte and Anne (Kenneth) Glick of Michigan City; three sons, Tom of Anna Maria, Fla., and Daniel and William, both of Michigan City; six grandchildren, Scott and Allison Glick, Katharine Hekter, Kelly and Ryan Waldron and Kyle Dinwoodie; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ila Badtke of Appleton, Wis., Anita Greenwood and Theresa Mester, both of South Bend, and Vera Laskowski of Mishawaka; and one brother, Edmund Goheen of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Lindsay Waldron and Carrie Glick; and one brother, Daniel Goheen.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the service. Burial of ashes will take place privately at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City. A private service was held on June 6 in Holmes Beach, where cremation took place.
