Death
Marion County - The Jefferson Democrat of the twenty-fifth says; "The Jefferson and Shreveport accommodation train left this city on time, a 6 A.M. yesterday, but on passing over the trestle across a slough in Little Cypress bayou, four miles out, the embankment supporting the outer timbers gave way, precipitating engine, tender and baggage car into the water below. The fireman, a young man name Ed. Goheen, a native of New York was shockingly mangled by the fall, and die within thirty minutes. The engineer, Antonio Batto, was seriously, but not fatally wounded, his shoulder being broken, and his arm painfully lacerated" .Correspondence between William H Hipple of the Texas & Pacific Railway Company and Goheen family of Geneseo, New York, following Edward L. Goheen's death in a railroad accident. Edward moved to Marshall, Texas around 1874, and worked for the Texas & Pacific Railway Company.
