ATCHLEY, Parolee
CENTER EAST 17 16
Parolee (Atchley) Atchley, daughter of John Riley Atchley and Rachael Pauline (Tillery) Atchley, was the wife of James Emerson "Em" Atchley, and the mother of James Emerson Atchley, Jr, who did not survive to adulthood, and Lula Mae (Atchley) Battles.
Parolee was born in Sewee, Meigs County, TN, in 1876. She moved with her parents from Tennessee to Dallas County, Texas in about 1877. Shortly after the area of the future Kiowa County, OK, opened to white settlement in 1901, her extended family moved to homesteads along Otter Creek. She married her first cousin, James Emerson (J E or "Em") Atchley in Kiowa County in 1902 according to her daughter. Her date of death has been derived from her Oklahoma Death Certificate. She died of lobar pneumonia.
In the Roosevelt Cemetery, she lies next to her husband in an unmarked grave. Her son most probably rests near her as do her mother and sister.
