Sara E ?; in the 1870 census is a Emiline Miller age 17, in Leatherwood, Porter two, Clarion County, Pennsylvana. She is listed on page 605 dwelling 178. James is on page 601, in New Bethleham, Porter twp, Clarion County. In 1870 is Samuel G Miller who was in the William Miller household in 1860 is now living in the Goheen household. In 1860 Sara is in the Miller household listed as Sara E on page 501 and James is on page 495. I have searched through Porter Township and this Sara is the only Sara within a reasonable distance. It appears that Samuel G being Sara's brother would give James close contact to Sara. It may be possible that this is James wife. In the 1880 census Amy Goheen the daughter of James and Sarah Goheen is found in the William Miller household. I believe that thisSara the daughter of William Miller is the wife of James Madison GoheenMiscellaneous
In the year 1880 the Goheen brother's made their appearance in Lillian township; Hugh M Goheen, John Goheen, J M Goheen and Austin Goheen and made a permentant residence. The winter of 1880-81 was the "hard winter". During this winter a petition was circulated to make Lillian township from Victoria township with votin in New Helena. Probably the first men who ever looked upon this valley with serious idea of possession were J M Goheen and H A Goheen and Wm H Gwinn. They located their claims and made a "Dug-out" and cut some hay, and prepared for winter. Some time during that fall John W Goheen a brother of the first arrivals came with their parents, quite old people who had been piineers in the settlement in western Pennsylvania. The aged couple full of fire of youth, were delighted with the new found earthly paradise and soon files on a homestead which they occupied until the death of James Goheen in August 1887.
During the 1881 summer the Goheen brothers built comfortable sod homes for their families.
