John Goheen was born in Porter township, Clarion County, in 1829, and was the son of Davis and Sarah Goheen nee Mahans. His paternal grandparents were James and Elizabeth Goheen nee Davis. The former was of Scotch-Irish descent. George Goheen, a brother of John, was in company A, 105th Pennsylvania volunteers about three years. He was wounded at the second Bull Run engagement. David, another brother, was in the same company, and served till the end of the war. He was also wounded. Our subject was a farmer till 1852, and then became a partner in a general store for three years. In 1856, he removed to Sellersville, and has since be engaged in mercantile business. He erected his present storeroom in 1873. He was married in 1855 to Margaret F Gaghagan. Their children are: D W, Laura, Ruth, Franklin, and Idella. Our subject is a member of the United Brethren Church. His parents and grandparents were Presbyterian.Census

Death
Will, #7544I John Goheen of North Point, West Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, being of sound disposing mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of life, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs while I have strength and capacity, do make this my last will and testament; hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore make.
First: I direct all my just debts including a note for two thousand ($2000) Dollars given by me to my beloved wife, and funeral expenses to be fully paid and satisfied by my Executor, hereinafter named, as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.
Item: I give and bequeath to by beloved wife, Margaret F Goheen all my household furniture and provisions, of every nature and kind whatsoever which shall be in or about my dwelling house at the time of my decease, my horse, buggy and harness, and all the produce to which shall be in the barn where I now reside, at the time of my decease, and also Two Thousand ($2000) dollars in money, to be paid to her by my executor herein after named as soon after my decease as may be consistent with a proper settlement of my estate, to have and to hold the same to her and to her heirs and assigns forever. I also give and devise to her my said wife, Margaret F Goheen, her heirs and assigns, in fee simple, the small tract of land with the buildings thereon erected, viz: a small barn and and other outbuildings, and the house wherein I now reside, at North Point, in West Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania
Item: All the rest residue and remainder of my estate, real personal and mixed whatsoever and whensoever, I order and direct to be converted into money as soon as the same can conveniently be done after my decease and for that purpose I do hereby authorize and impower my said Executor, hereinafter named, to sell and dispose of all my said real estate either by public or private sale or sales, for the best price or prices that can be gotten for the same, and by proper deed or deeds, conveyances or assurances in the law to be duly executed, acknowledged, and perfected hereof i fee simple. And the proceeds realized from my said residuary estate, that is, after payment in full of y debts, and bequest to my said wife, I dispose of in manner following to wit: one fifth thereof I give and bequeath to my son, Davis W Goheen, his heirs and assigns one fifth thereof to my daughter Laura McEwen, her heirs and assigns one fifth thereof to my daughter, Ruth Haglett, her heirs and assigns, one fifth thereof to my daughter, Della M Swartz, her heirs and assigns, and the other one fifth thereof I dispose of as follows: two thirds of the said other one fifth thereof I give and bequeath to my grandson Max I Goheen, his heirs and assigns, and one third of the said other one fifth I give and bequeath to my son, Davis W Goheen, in trust; ? to invest the same at such rate of interest as he may sum proper, and the interest thereon I direct to be paid to by daughter-in-law, Clara Goheen, widow of my deceased son J Frank Goheen, during her natural life providing she shall so lone remain the widow of my said deceased son: and upon her death or sooner in the event of her remarrying, I give and bequeath the principal to my said grandson Max I Goheen, his heirs and assigns.
However, should my said grandson, Max I Goheen die during his minority then and in such case I give and bequeath the said two thirds of the said other oe fifth as aforesaid, hence bequeath to him, to my children, share and hare alike. And ahold he die before the death or remarrying of his mother, Clara Goheen, unmarried and without children to survive him, then and in such case I give and bequeath the said one third of the one fifth, as aforesaid herein bequeathed in trust, to my four children share and share alike.
And lastly, I dl hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son Davis W Goheen, to by the Executor of this my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of February, in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and four (1904).
