J. G. Goheen's Buffalo Hill ranch is looking fine this spring. The wheat field, which withstood the dust storms has afforded early pasture for the cows and is now growing big and rank. The oats look fine and the big pasture on the hill, from which you can see Downs, Cawker and Osborne lights at night, is ready with plenty of grass and water for the cattle and horses this summer. The old spring in the pasture has waked up again and is bubbling down the hill into the big pond which will not go dry this summer. Then the elm trees, box elders and cottonwoods, which line the creek are budding out, and the birds singing makes everything lively. Yes thing look fine on the old homestead; why long for a better place?Occupation
Why not order a silo now from J. G. Goheen and have it ready to fill for his cattle now, when others are this fall? Mr. Goheen has fine feed buying. Its the right way.Death

J. G. Goheen Passes Away--The death of J. G. Goheen which occurred last Saturday, came as a distinct shock to the community and it seemed impossible to conceive that this rugged pioneer of Rose Valley has passed to the Great Beyond. Mr. Goheen had been in fairly good health until quite recently, and last week he was stricken with apoplexy, from which attack he never rallied.
Mr. Goheen was born in Pennsylvania on August 26, 1854, and died on February 10, 1923, being at age of 69 years, 7 months and 16 days when called to his Master's side. Funeral services were held at the Rose Valley church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment was made in the Downs cemetery.
James G. Goheen was born at Pine Grove Mills Centre County, Pennsylvania, August 26th, 1855. Died at his home in Smith County, Kansas, February 10th, 1923. He was married to Mary M. Mannagle March 5th 1876. Moved with his bride to Kansas, locating near Downs in the pioneer days. He was always cheerful, kind and helpful. His faithful wife died January 1st, 1900, leaving the husband and four children-- Frank, William, Addie, and Maude.
He was married again February, 1901, to Mrs Flora Mize. To this union was born one son, Paul. In 1917 he united with the Evangelical church of Rose Valley and lived a faithful life until his death.
He leaves to morn his death, the wife, three sons, two daughter, two step-daughters, fifteen grand-children, one sister and four brothers.
The funeral services was held in the Rose Valley church at 2 p.m. February 12, conducted by the pastor, and the remains were interred in the Downs cemetery.

There is a vacant chair in our home and an aching void in; our life that can never be filled. Our dear husband and father has gone to his final reward to receive that prize of eternal life which God has ready for His children; and our home is shrouded in gloom, but we must take up our burdens of life and do what is allotted us to do until God calls us, too. Dearest father, thou has left us and our loss we deeply feel, but 'tis God that hath bereft us. He will our sorrow heal. In behalf of our family we do sincerely thank our friends for their kindly assistance in the sickness and death of our husband and father. Also those who sent the beautiful floral offerings. -- Mrs. J. G. Goheen and FamilyDeath-shared
