The awful News reached our town Wednesday afternoon, of last week, that Mr A. Lancaster, of Coffeville had been shot and killed, the afternoonn beforee, by his son-in-law. Mr Jack W Cave.To convey to the uninformed reader proper understanding of the matter, it will be necessary to state that, sometime since Mr. and Mrs. Cave separated, the later returning to her father. Occasionally, since the separation, Mr Cave has seen and conversed with his wife and a union of the couple, we understand was in consummation. The afternoon of the fatel day. Mr Cave, returning from a visit to a neighbor to a neighbor, called at Mr. Lancaster's gate, when his wife came out to see him. Soon Mr. Lancaster came out with his doble-barreled gun, and as Mr Cave unhitched his horse to leave, fired at him striking his horse with several shot, and was about to fire a second time, when Mr. Cave returned the fire, striking Mr Lancaster in the breast with several shot. He started back for the house. and reaching the steps, sank down and expired immediately.
