that George Knox and wife Harriet L Knox of Cherokee County, state of Iowa, in consideration of the sum of Fifty-Eight hundred and thirty two and 40/100 Dollars in hand paid do hereby sell and convey unto Alexander Knox of Blair County and state of Pennsylvania the following described premises situated in Cherokee County, Iowa to wit: the south half of the North East quarter of section twenty (20) and the west half of Northwest quarter of section twenty-one (21), and the South east quarter of said northwest quarter of section Twenty - one (21). All in township No. Ninety-two (92) North of Range Forty (40) West of the 5th PM containing 200 acres more or less according to Govt. survey- Subject to a mortgage of $800 and interest to Jas Law. And we do hereby covenant with the said Alexander Knox that we are lawfully seized of fee simple of said premises; that they are free from incumbinbrance: that we have good right and lawful authority to sell the same; and we do hereby covenant to Warrant and Defend the said premises and appurtenances thereto belonging against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever; and the said Harriet L Knox, wife of said George hereby relinqushes all her rights of Dower and Homestead in and to the above described premises.Signed the 13 day of July AD 1883

Will: Files 27 Jan 1915I. A B Knox of the County of Cherokee and State of Iowa, being of sound and disposing mind and memory and lawful age, do hereby make, publish and declare this , my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made, that is to say:
First I direct that all my just debts be paid as soon after my death as practical.
Second. I give devise and bequest unto my dear wife, Lizzie B Knox the sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars in cash, same to be payable as soon after my death as practicable, but in no event later than one year from the date of the probate of this Will and from which said date it shall draw interest at six per cent per annum is not then paid.
Third. I further give unto my wife, Lizzie B Knox the use, rents profits and income from the home property now occupied by us in Cherokee, Iowa, being Lots Four (4) and Five (5) and the West Half of Lot Three (3), all in Block 56, Own Lot and Land Company's Seventh Addition to New Cherokee, Iowa, together with all of the household goods, furniture and fixtures therein, she to hold the said home and contents so long as she remains unmarried, and during her natural Life, if she is no again remarried. She shall and shall pay all taxes, assessments, and costs of repairs on the same and the insurance thereon, and shall have full control and management of all said property during the time herein specified. She shall have the right to rent said home property, and take the income therefrom, as she shall see fit. And I hereby give unto such terms as she shall see fit, without any order of the court being necessary therefore, and without the necessity of making any report of such sale to the court, and she shall have like authority to sell and dispose of the contents of said home or any part thereof upon such terms and prices as she shall see fit. And in case of the sale of said home, or any of its contents, then she shall have the power to invest and re-invest the proceeds from either in such manner as she shall see fit and to have the income therefrom, after payment of all taxes and assessments, for her own absolute property while she so remains unmarried.
