George Washington Drewry, Jr. was the son of George Washington Drewry, Sr. and Susan Hendrix. He was married to Tabitha Jane Dean on December 24, 1869 in Searcy, Arkansas.

Obituary
Judge George W. Drewry, one of the best known and highly esteemed citizens of the county, died at his home in Witt Springs, last Friday night, December 1, 1899 at 9:40 o'clock, after an illness of nearly two years, during which time he suffered continually. Mr. Drewry was a devoted Christian and member of the Methodist church. He had been a class leader in the church and Sunday school superintendent for a number of years.

The remains were laid to rest at the Witt Springs cemetery, Sunday with Masonic honors. Presiding Elder A.J. Taylor of Harrison conducted the funeral services, which were beautiful and impressive. The stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.

Mr. Drewry was born in Dekalb county, Tenn,. Oct 13, 1846, and came to Arkansas with his parents when a boy and spent the remainder of his life in Searcy county. He was married December 24, 1869 to Tabitha J. Dean. His wife and four children still survive him. He was appointed postmaster at Witt Springs, October 10, 1879, and served continually until his death. This service extended over twenty-one years, he being the oldest postmaster in the state. His commission was issued by David M. Key, who was Postmaster General in President Hays' cabinet. He served several terms as justice of the peace, and two terms as county Judge of Searcy county form 1894 to 1898.

We, the Woodsmen of the World, assembled at Witt Springs, Ark, December 2, 1899, extend our heartfelt sympathy to our neighbor sovereign, Leander Drewry, and also to his mother and sister on the death of their father and husband, G. W. Drewry, whom it has pleased the master to release from this world of suffering and take him to that home where there is no pain and suffering; that we will miss him, as he was one of our best citizens and one who was every ready and willing to extend a helping hand toward everything that was honorable and noble.
