The Marshall Republican, February 24, 1899:
On last Friday evening Marshall was thrown into a fervor of excitement by the news coming in that Mrs. Hensley, wife of "Uncle Port" Hensley, living east of town some three or four miles had committed suicide by hanging herself. The sad affair happened about 111 o'clock in the morning, and is deeply regretted by scores of old friends and neighbors to the family. The remains were laid to rest in the grave yard here Sunday in the presence of a large concourse of weeping relatives and sympathetic friends. We learn from Dr. A.J. Redwine, their family physician, that Mrs. Hensley was slightly deranged and at times was very despondent which no doubt was the cause of the fatal act. "Uncle Port," the aged husband, and children, have the sympathy of all.
