CHESLEY ROY RYDER

(21 Oct 1887 - 13 Jun 1961)

He never married, but with his cousin Blanche Ryder, raised a large family of orphaned Ryder children. The following biography sums up his life:

Chess was the only child of 15 children of Asa Ryder's family who never married. He stayed on the old farm which was known as the George Alward farm before Asa bought it. Both Chess and Blanche worked hard on the farm, after she came there to help raise her brother Walter's and Chess's sister Lillian's children. Many family members also visited in the summer. Chess loved children and would take time to play with them. Chess sold the old farm in the 1950s, and bought a farm in Steeves Settlement. [Dana Ryder]
