MARY SEREPTA RYDER

(15 Aug 1855 - 1934)

Mary's Obituary reads, "Robert W. Scribner was for many years station agent at various points on the old Intercolonial Railway and prior to his retirement was located at Cold Creek, Saint John County, for several years." His own obituary tells us he was "well and favorably known, having served as an a employee of the C.N.R. for 39 years."

He retired in 1917 to Petitcodiac NB. In 1924 the "happy couple" celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and were reported "still hale and hearty on their long and successful journey along the rugged pathway of life." On 24 Apr 1927 Robert "had been in his usual good health the day before, doing considerable work about the home and retiring at the usual hour remarking he was a little tired. At about eleven o'clock he was stricken and Dr. Fleming was hastily summoned who did all he could, but to no avail."

In her last years Mary lived with her son Harold in Doaktown NB, where she died.
