MANASSAH H. RYDER

(1849 - 14 Jan 1889)

A marriage record reads, "married at residence of bride's father, 19th March by Reverend John Williams - Manasseh H. Rider and Miss Annie O'Neil, all of Havelock Parish, King's Co."

Manassah farmed in Salem NB. But in early 1889 disaster struck this family when he died suddenly, aged only 40, on 14 Jan 1889.

At that time his four girls were all still alive. However, by 17 Apr 1889, two of the girls, Sarah and Millicent, had also died. Nancy was granted Letters of Administration. The 1891 census shows a household of Thomas, aged 70 (Manassah's uncle, see Fam#19, Nancy, "Delia" and "Maggie." Later still, the girls married and both moved to Pittsfield ME, the mother accompanying them.

Both Sarah and Millicent died "before they were out of their teens." It is believed they were buried on the farm at Springhill under an old apple tree.
