CHARLES MILES RYDER

The report of his death reads: "11 February 1864 TEL: On Saturday 30th Ult, Chas. s/o Nathan Ryder, New Canaan (Queens's Co) was killed while unloading logs at the brow of the lower north branch of the New Canaan River. He had left camp at sunrise with a load of three logs, and being absent longer than usual , his brothers went to see if anything was wrong and found him lying dead in the brow with a log on top of him. The deceased was a remarkably able-bodied man, about 20 years of age, and in height not less than six feet eight inches." [Vital Statistics from New Brunswick (Canada) Newspapers, Vol. 21 #2594]
