Death

Obituary: Ruth Elaine Hoffpauir Mitchell, 77, died Friday, January 25, 2008, in Lake Charles. Born in Indian Bayou, Louisiana, to Newton and Mary Lou Perry Hoffpauir, Mrs. Mitchell lived most of her life in the Sulphur-Lake Charles area. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board as school secretary at both W. W. Lewis and LeBlanc Middle Schools from 1968 until the mid 1980s. Mrs. Mitchell was a vibrant resident of Villa Maria Retirement Center for the past four years and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of the staff and other residents. She was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Debby Thomason and husband Bill, and Marla Stine and husband Dennis, all of Lake Charles; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Mitchell of Humble, Texas; two brothers, Ladd Hoffpauir of Reeves and Billy Hoffpauir of Sulphur; three sisters, Wilma Grossman of Orange, Texas and Vivian Kelly and Verena Riley, both of Sulphur; one brother-in-law, Don Perry, and one sister-in-law, Catherine Drost, both of Sulphur; nine grandchildren, Jill Thomason Noel and husband Jay of Baton Rouge, Jennifer Thomason Barton and husband Jason of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jason Stine of New York, Laurie Stine Cunningham and husband Brady of Lake Charles, Jana Stine and Ben Stine, both of Baton Rouge, Scott Mitchell and wife Tara of Austin, Texas, Kurt Mitchell and wife Amanda and Micah Mitchell, all of Humble, Texas; and eight great grandchildren, Jana and Josh Noel, Jake and Jonah Barton, Jack and Camille Cunningham, Ben Mitchell and Chloe Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Thomas E. “Tommy” Mitchell, Jr.; her son, Tommy Mitchell; two sisters, Betty Jinks and Beverly Farnum; and two brothers, Norwood Hoffpauir and J. D. Hoffpauir. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Father T. L. Herlong will officiate. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday and on Monday from 9 a.m. until service time.
