Francis Stevens

BIOGRAPHY: Francis' father left him "only twenty shillings currency, h aving for merly granted and given to him a full share with my other ch ildren." On Oct. 2 4, 1767, Francis had a state grant (or more correc tly a colony grant) of 200 ac res in Anson County (now in Montgomery C o.) on the SW side of the Pee Dee river . This property was near hi s brothers, Long John Stevens and James by Brown Cr eek. This was like ly their homes from about 1770 until 1800 or 1808. In the 1 790 censu s, Francis was listed as having one boy under 16 and two girls. He p r obably had two adult children who had moved away. At the time of th e 1800 Fran cis was not listed. He is found with James and 3-5 of hi s sons and James Jr. o n the Franklin County, Indiana Tax List of 1811 . At that time Francis was nea rly 70 years of age and perhaps soon d ied as no further record of him is found. According to his nephew Isaa c, Francis was a Veteran of the American Revoluti on, but his name i s no any any official list.
