(Submitted by Paddy McCullough) The street in front of the house, 2 5 mile avenue, was unpaved but with a cliche topping. Cliche is a read ily available limestone rock that makes for good road surface. Someho w Sis had gotten a horse and had taken me for a ride. What a ride, al l I could see was the back of Sis as I held on for dear life. As we ro de down 25-mile avenue the horse decided that it would less painful t o move of the cliche road and trot on the roadside under the trees. S is was well aware that you should duck to miss the tree limbs she howe ver failed to notify me that the limb that was coming up would wipe m e off the back of the horse if I did not duck. Sis ducked, I then sa w the limb that was whipping me off the horse. The only other tim e I remember riding a horse with Sis was at Mother's uncle's farm. Si s and I were again positioned on a horse with me looking at the back o f Sis's blouse. The horse we were riding was a plow horse and was so w ide that my leg stuck straight out. My only chance to stay aboard wa s to hang onto Sis's skirt. Sis ascended up a steep bank, which cause d me to start my rearward slide and descend from the horse. Not givin g up my grip on Sis's skirt, I hit the ground with my hands still in f ull grip of the skirt. The plow horse then proceeded to back up and st ep on my chest. It was not until years later via x-rays that I found t hat I had several broken ribs on my left side curiously in the shape o f large semi-circle. Lesson learned - don't ride behind Sis if you val ue your safe being.
