Pamela Page Cox
(23 Jul 1946 - 8 Jul 2006)
Pamela Page Briles was born on July 23, 1946, to Donald and Marian Cox in Oakland and passed on July 8, 2006, while doing the thing she loved most, riding her much loved Miss Fire on an endurance race through the Sierra Foothills. Pam was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend to many.
Pam is survived by her husband of 24 years, Thomas Briles; her mother, Marian Cox; her brother, Truman Richard; her beloved daughter and best friend, Jennifer Leigh Phipps; son-in-law, Andrew Phipps; cherished grandchildren, Max and Morgan Phipps; stepdaughter, Angela Briles and her children, Travis, Kyle and Ryan Briles.
Pam led an adventurous life and counted herself rich beyond simple monetary means. She was an avid horse lover and enjoyed all of the adventure and beauty that she encountered in nature. In addition to raising horses all of her life, she found excitement and challenges in endurance riding. For the past 16 years, Pam took great pride riding her Arabian horses, Coke and Miss Fire, as a member of the Saddle Jackets, a Napa-based women's horse appreciation and riding club. One of her closest companions in life, Coke, was with Pam for 23 years and together they trekked thousands of miles through the varying wooded trails, rocky slopes, high plains deserts and stunning hillsides of the western United States. Pam's single greatest achievement atop her trusted mount was completing the legendary 100-mile Tevis Cup through the most treacherous terrain in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Horse racing was one of Pam's most fulfilling activities and so it happens that it was during the 50-mile "Gold Country" endurance race that Pam left this world. Her family and friends take solace in the fact that she left this life doing the one thing that she loved the most.
In her 60 years, Pam touched the lives of many in a positive and helpful way, from the Napa County Sheriff's Office to those involved in local real estate, from the Northern California Horse Community to members of her bocce team and the many people in between, including, most importantly, her family. Pam's deep faith in the Lord gave her much comfort, strength and happiness, as every day was a blessing for her to be enjoyed with her family, friends and animals.
It can be said that one of the most important lessons Pam taught those of us closest to her was the real meaning of the words "unconditional love." Pam will be missed by many but remembered by all who she touched.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life with a memorial service held Friday, July 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Napa Valley Horseman's Association, 1200 Foster Rd., Napa, CA 94558. Because of her compassion and desire to help others in need, we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Pamela Briles to Skyline Park Citizens Association, 2201 Imola Ave., Napa, CA 94559, 252-0481.
